electronic toll collection faqs
What products does Sirit offer
to the tolling industry?
Sirit is a supplier of toll
transponders compliant with the
California Department of
Transportation (CalTrans) Title 21
standard for high speed, open lane
electronic toll collection and traffic
management applications. Some
customers have successfully integrated
and used the Sirit IDentity Flex
series for an economical solution for
low speed or stop and go applications.
Can I use my tag with other
tags in the same vehicle?
Your tag will not interfere with the
use of an IDentity Flex tag, however,
only one Title 21 compliant tag type
can be used in a single vehicle
without potential of interference.
Multiple tags should be mounted at
least 6" apart.
How can I store my tag if I do
not want it to be read?
Your toll agent usually provides
metalized shielded plastic storage
bags for use to prevent your tag from
being read (if you have multiple tags
in the vehicle)
Why does my tag beep sometimes
and not others?
The tag beeps when it receives an
acknowledgement signal from the lane
equipment that it has been
successfully read. Not all toll
operations implement an
acknowledgement signal.
Will my toll tag work in other
areas or states?
Toll tags are the property of the toll
authority. Some agencies, particularly
in Southern California have
interworking relationships, whereby a
toll tag from one agency can be read
by another. Toll tags used in other
parts of the United States are based
on proprietary technology and are not
compatible with Title 21.
How does a toll tag work?
A transmitter in the lane sends a
signal to wake up the tag in the
vehicle which responds by reflecting
the energy back to the lane receiver.
This coded information is detected by
the lane computer and verified to the
unique account information for your
vehicle.
Will my tag interfere with my
car electronics?.
No, the tag is not a transmitter and
will not affect your car electronics.
Does Sirit have an alternative
to the windshield tag?
Yes, Sirit manufactures a bumper
mounted tag specifically for external
applications. This tag secures with
tamper resistant stainless screws to
the license plate and includes a
special key tool required for removal.
